About the Update

The Update is published for the mutual benefit of the SDDL membership, a non-profit association composed of defense lawyers in the San Diego metropolitan area. All views, opinions, statements and conclusions expressed in this magazine are those of the authors, and they do not necessarily reflect the opinions or policies of the SDDL or its leadership.

The SDDL welcomes the submission of articles - from members and non-members alike - on topics of general interest to its membership, including information about pertinent recent verdicts and published decisions. Please also consider submitting details about changes in a member's professional status (changing firms, retirements, appointments, and the like), as well as information related to awards and honors bestowed on SDDL members or members of the local judiciary. Law students are also encouraged to submit articles for consideration.

​Starting in June 2025, The Update transitioned from a quarterly PDF magazine to a more frequent email newsletter, delivering timely updates on upcoming events, CLE summaries, member news, and alerts directly to members' inboxes.
